Five Minute Friday...Here...

Wow, I can't believe it is Friday already again. Time is a funny thing, days can creep by yet at the same time weeks fly by! So it is with five minutes, such a short amount of time, yet it is amazing to see the amazing thoughts and inspirations from the people who take part in Five Minute Friday. Please be sure and stop by Lisa-Jo's blog and check out the amazing minds out there!!! We all follow the same rules, one word...five minutes...no editing. Today's word is HERE...

go.

Some days this empty nest of ours can get pretty lonely.
Some days I find myself wondering what does a mom with adult children do?
They aren't here...they are there...
Some days I find myself remembering the "good old days".
Those days when I was mom to kids that were here!
Those days when a hug was all the pay I needed.
As I sit here now, I realize my job is still mom.
Those hugs are still there...they are in the form of a text or a phone call.
As much as I loved my kids as babies, toddlers and kids...I love seeing where they are now.
I love seeing all the ways that God has answered our prayers for them.

Today I found myself texting one of my children...I am here whenever you need me.
Now my job focuses even more on prayer...so no matter where my children are...
I will be here...praying for them! What a great place to be!!!

  1. Beautiful thoughts, from a beautiful Mother- a lot like mine- and I lot like the one I pray to be for my 3 precious children. Thank you so much for the reminder to enjoy every minute of Here always :)

  3. This is lovely Brenda. As a daughter just leaving the nest, let me assure you that Moms are still very needed, even when we're gone. Your support is the greatest thing ever! Great post. =)

  7. Brenda, this makes me cry. Only b/c every day I beg for my little baby girl (5 months old) to not grow up too quickly. I want her to grow up b/c I want her to be healthy, but I also want her to stay a baby forever. I just can't get enough of her. Your post reminded me that good things are yet to come, too. :-)

  8. Hi Brenda! I totally get this. I married off my first born, a daughter last June. My oldest son is 19 now and making his own way (although still loving at home). I miss them being young, wanting hugs and to hang with mom. But I am thankful I have a 12yo girl and a 10yo boy at home, which makes me hold them even closer. They grow too fast!

  9. Brenda - I too am an empty nest mom and I am struggling to find who I am without them. I am also relearning how to interact with them as their mom that is becoming a friend. I now spent much more time in prayer for them.

    1. Amy, my favorite expression is I am trying to figure out what I want to be when my kids grow up. It's not bad that they are gone...just different and it will take time to adjust to a new normal in our lives. That is why I am so thankful for prayer!!!

  10. Brenda, I've read dozens of today's FMF posts, but this one stopped me in my tracks, and filled my eyes with tears, because these words could have been straight from my lips, my heart. And thank you so much for reminding me that here, now, the blessing I have is that my job as mom is to pray, pray, pray for my beloved boys, and now their wives, and my little granddaughter, and the others that will surely follow. I miss having my babies, my boys, my children with me here ... but my job's not over. Thank you for reminding me!

  11. Moms are truly a blessing. My brother and I are both grown and out of the house but my mom is like my best friend. We hang out all the time and she spends lots of time with my little girls. :) Your work as a momma will never be done. Thank goodness. ;)

  12. This is awesome. I have little ones, but I know the day is coming when they will be off and gone and I'll be standing in your shoes. What a great reminder that my job will not be finished, but just beginning in a new way. And don't we all need those silent partners as we navigate life, to pray us through? Thank you for sharing over at FMF and for stopping by to visit me Under the Date Palm Tree.
